Story

FZ03569 Along the River During the Qingming Festival, Rainbow Bridge Porcelain Vase Along the River During the Qingming Festival is a scroll painting from the Qing Dynasty, widely regarded as a national treasure and kept at National Palace Museum. This panoramic painting depicts Bianjing (today’s Kaifeng), capturing the prosperity and landscape of the capital during the Northern Song period. The spot where the Rainbow Bridge crosses the river is placed at the center of the scroll and is, therefore, the main focus. People from all walks of life can be seen hustling and bustling on the bridge. The crew on a sailboat are working to steer the boat ashore, assisted by the crowds under the bridge. The scene is full of joy and energy, manifesting the festive atmosphere during an important holiday. Inspired by this masterpiece, Franz Collection designed a vase that depicts the central Rainbow Bridge. The vase is shaped like a mountain, indicating the solid foundation of the nation. The long flowing river implies that the nation will long endure. The vase captures the prosperous urban lifestyle during the Song Dynasty through the 208 people on the bridge carved and painted in intricate and delicate detail.
